Sicebile : Swaziland’s Cultural Adornment and Artefacts

With Gordon’s many years of traveling around Eswatini visiting the people and collecting and documenting the Swazi culture and artefacts he decided to put this altogether in a book called Sicebile – the only publication dedicated entirely to the material culture of Eswatini. This was Gordon’s way of honouring the people, traditions, and artistry he encountered on his journey.

In November 2003 he was renamed ‘Malangabi’ after being initiated into Inyatsi, a traditional Swazi regiment. Gordon has since been transferred into the Balondolozi regiment for senior warriors.

Gordon is internationally recognized for his ethnographic work and his expertise on the history and artefacts of the Nguni peoples in southern and central Africa. Gordon has been referenced in multiple books, academic papers, and documentaries, including Zulu Kings and Their Armies and Headrests of Southern Africa. Gordon has also assisted the British Museum in Scotland with the identification and cataloguing of their early Malawian collection, as well as offering practical field guidance for authors of several scholarly papers. He is the custodian of a collection of rare Nguni artifacts that he has gathered through years of traveling across Africa.
